The San Francisco Estate Planning Council (SFEPC) is a highly recognized, interdisciplinary 501(c)(6) membership organization. Established in 1953 for San Francisco professionals involved in estate planning, we provide members with opportunities to enhance their skills and expand their network through programs and interaction.

The National Association for Estate Planners & Councils (NAEPC) was established in 1963, and we are now one of 260+ local estate planning councils affiliated with the NAEPC.

Emerging Council Award

In 2025, the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils (NAEPC) named our chapter as an "Emerging Council," one of three Council Excellence awards granted by the NAEPC. This means that our chapter's programming, leadership, and member engagement is exemplary.

Council Excellence awards are based on a number of factors, including membership size, ratios of different professionals within the membership, growth goals and metrics, quality of programming, attendance numbers at meetings and events, internal operations and processes, fiscal management, and board composition, among others. There are 270+ recognized councils across the U.S., and each one operates independently. 

What We Do

For members, the Council hosts educational events, an annual summer symposium, and social events throughout the year. Each event brings relevant and engaging content to members together with focused networking opportunities. In addition, members have the option to contribute content and thought leadership at our meetings, providing more exposure and furthering connections.

For the next generation of estate planners, we can be a source of inspiration, knowledge, and potential mentorship. While professionals who have less than five years of experience are not eligible to join us at this time, many established practitioners in our community have an interest in forming casual mentoring relationships with those interested in joining our ranks.

• Our calendar runs from July 1 through June 30 every year
• Membership dues are payable on July 1
• New members can apply year round
• The SFEPC Board reviews all new member applications
• Non-members are able to attend some events, but not all
